Our Story

Our family believes strongly in the concept of “aging in place,” which is keeping seniors in their homes as long as possible. We believe that our mobile medical alert pendant can help in this process.

First Alert Medical Pendant was founded on a personal family need of aging grandparents. As a family-owned company, our own grandparents enjoyed their senior years living in the houses they raised their families in. During their aging years, one of our grandparents was involved in a single- vehicle car accident, due to taking a wrong turn getting off the highway. She lost control, hit a curb, hit a utility pole and her car came to a rest a few feet away. She was transported to the hospital with a broken hip, developed pneumonia, and passed away.

Being devastated, our family saw a need for mobile monitoring to protect seniors like her. If she would have had a mobile medical alert device, she could have pressed her help button and received instant help, such as driving directions or a ride from a family member.

From our family to yours, please cherish every minute you have with loved ones and provide every resource possible to help them age in place.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Medical Alert System?

Medical alert systems are designed for simplicity. The equipment typically consists of two components. First is the base station, which plugs into a standard electrical outlet and a standard phone jack. Second is the transmitter, which is usually a button worn as a necklace or wristband.

Who should use a medical alert pendant?

Alert systems are designed to help people who fall into any of the following categories:

  • Have a history of falls.
  • Live alone or left alone for extended periods by caregiver.
  • Use mobility assisted devices (walkers, canes, crutches, wheelchairs).
  • Have functional limitations in performing two or more ADL (activities of daily living).
  • Live in an unsafe neighborhood, or feel unsafe at home.
  • Have home safety hazards which are not correctable, or expense considerations.
  • Are more than 75 years of age.
  • Have sensory deficits (vision or hearing).
  • Have been hospitalized within the last 12 months.
  • Are physically frail.
  • Have a history of medication management problems.
  • Have a cognitive deficit.
What happens if I accidentally press the emergency button?

Your system will be set off as it would in a real emergency, but don’t panic. A First Alert dispatcher will come over the base unit to ask if you need help and you simply tell them it was an accident. Make sure you respond to them or they might think it is a real emergency and contact your family and/or send emergency personnel to your house.

Who does my system call if I press the help button?

When you press your help button a trained operator from First Alert will answer to assist you. We will first ask if you are okay and safe. If you do need assistance, we can call a family member, a friend, neighbor or anyone you ask us too. If you are in need of emergency assistance, we will dispatch EMS and stay on the line until help arrives.

What types of medical alert pendants are available?

We offer you the choice of two types of pendants (a necklace or wristband) for our traditional In-home system, both of which are waterproof. We also have a Fall Detection button available.

How does the On-The-Go system work?

Our On-The-Go medical pendant lets users be in or out of their homes and still get the same level of safety, independence and freedom. We use 3G/4G wireless signals to talk between you and our office! So- when you are at home, at the store or across the US on vacation, you are safe! Enjoy visiting family out of town with no worries!

How often do I need to charge the battery on my On-The-Go?

Batteries should be charged daily for best use! Don’t worry, if your battery is low, we will call you to let you know!

How often should I test my medical alert system?

We will be silently checking the signals on our end every week, and we recommend that you test your system once a month by pressing the emergency button and waiting for the dispatcher to come over the line. Simply advise the dispatcher that you are just testing.

What types of medical alert pendants are available?

We offer a traditional in-home system and an On-The-Go System. With the in-home system, a user can choose from a necklace or wrist pendant. The On-The-Go unit comes with a belt clip or necklace. Both in-home and On-The-Go are waterproof and SHOULD be worn in the shower. Fall detection is available for both systems!

Will this interfere with my pacemaker?

No, there is no magnetic component involved so our equipment will not affect pacemakers in any way.

Do I need to sign a contract?

No, unlike other providers, Bay First Alert does not require a long-term contract. We will cancel your account once we receive all of the equipment, without any cancellation fees.

What do I have to pay to get started?

Your card will be charged once you place the order for the initial monitoring fee and any additional accessories plus shipping charges. Your service will be activated immediately.

To simplify payments for our customers, we will automatically take payment on the same date every month, three months, or six months, depending on the plan you choose. For further questions regarding billing, please give us a call at 1-855-304-FALL
